About "Hout Bay Yacht Club"

A visit to Hout Bay is enough to inspire any artist who loves boats and harbours.

The atmosphere is filled with diesel fumes, throbbing engines, crying gulls and the smell of fish and salty air. The boats groan and strain at their moorings in the shifting tide.

I tried to capture more than the visual picture and included the ropes to unify the composition.

About Pierre

I was born in Viljoensdrift in the Free State, Rep. of South Africa in 1945.

I am a self-taught artist who makes art because I love it.

My careers in the mining industry, hotelling and later in construction has taught me to pay great attention to detail and pursue excellence.

It all started with a trip to Hout Bay a couple of years ago. The sight of a fleet of fishing boats released a long-dormant seed of creativity, which has grown into an insatiable passion for painting.

This an a love of all things nautical has influenced my choice of boats and harbours as mymain source of inspiration although I have ventured into other avenues.
