About "Little Boat Blue "

Local "treknet" (literally - pull net) fishermen in False Bay, Cape Town, use this little rowing boat to place their net. The net is laid in a large semi-circle from, and back to the beach. The net is then hauled in by hand. Remarkable skill is necessary in order to take this little boat out through the breakers, and then later, to surf the breakers in to the beach again. For all of the static beauty of this image, I can never forget the picture in my mind of this little boat leaping through the waves.

The other thing that caught my eye and prompted me to capture this image were the myriad shades of blue displayed in boat, sea, sky, the distant mountains, and even the boat's shadow.

About Robin

Robin Bownes

Photography has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My father has a photograph of me, at age 3, taking a photograph of him. In high school I discovered that photography and a camera confidently wielded, provided access to people & places that might otherwise have been out of reach.

However, what fascinated me from the very beginning, was that I could capture moments in time, manipulate them, and turn them into art. Digital photography and editing has of course opened previously unimagined possibilities in this regard. The digital age has forever changed what it means to be a photographer. Photography now includes not only 'pure' photographic images, straight from the camera, but also digital imaging art, using photographs as a starting point and framework for new artistic, photographic possibilities.

I believe that photography is art if it is treated as such. I believe that art requires constant experimentation, learning and pushing of boundaries. I believe that creativity and its appreciation is a basic function of humanity. I don't believe in limiting myself to any one style or aspect of my art.
