About "Mana Epic"
Mana Pools, the epic part of the Zambezi floodplain looking at Zambia from Zim. The wonder of the wild
I have followed my passion for the wilderness and the feeling of immense freedom that comes with being out there, in a world that is torn apart by media and just simply "noise", it is hard to focus on reality. Part of the great attraction for me has been the ability to go deep within oneself when out here, the humbling effect of the wild is essential to our own wellbeing, it goes without saying that that the modern world is distracting us from reality, the earth is where we come from and where we go to, we have no more right to life than these beautiful places and their occupants! Out here silence is your friend and not the enemy like we are led to believe in this modern crazy world! A painting is more than a picture, there is a deep passion within a piece of art, and there doesn't need to be a message in there, all it needs to do is stop you momentarily to contemplate, something we are not good at doing anymore. My life has been about awareness of what we truly have, my own, my family's and yours! Join us in these places, walk in the sands of the dried rivers, feel the vibrancy of Africa, the "world's greatest wilderness" Take a journey through these paintings and become a part of this life we have around us, connect with your soul and take in the magnificence of the wilderness.

About Astley
Africa is a place that captivates the mind, she is old and tells her tales in mysterious ways, we only have to sit quietly and listen to the stories that flow from her. My late father Colonel Ted Maberly's stories of East Africa as a child thrilled me and inspired by all my late Uncle Charles Astley Maberly's work on wildlife, set a path for me to follow later in life. Africa is perhaps best described in pictures, as I know of no way to really portray her beauty in words, which is why I have turned to painting and photography to find some way of conveying this beauty across to all. This journey certainly hasn't been a search for answers, this has been more about learning to listen to the wild.
My passion for Elephants amongst other species goes back as far as I can remember, perhaps from the stories of old tuskers on the slopes of Kilimanjaro and the Selous - their intelligence as a species and the deep sense of knowing they portray, has led me to often refer to them as old souls. My love for these creatures is what started me sketching and then painting, and yet it's the incredible symbiosis that is nature that has been my inspiration, that feeling of intelligent energy that overwhelms me in the presence of this magnificence.
Behind each Painting there is a life, a story about that special connection, the heightening of the senses and the realisation that we are undeniably a part of a higher more organised order! I found that whilst I loved sketching, Oils became my medium of choice as I am able to more accurately represent the deep colour's of Africa, Oil paint can have a unique texture that allows the artist to push the boundaries of the norm and there are always new ideas and techniques, as a medium I find it open ended. That's why I use them oil especially on large Canvas there is nothing more impacting than a large Canvas of Africa ! Soon if we ignore the plight of Africa these wild places will exist no longer, the rate of organised poaching is accelerating; unbelievably, there will be no Elephants to speak of soon! I see that each one of us can impact the future of the wild areas of Africa. The drums are beating, and it's time to listen. Its all about awareness Tread lightly Astley Maberly
