Reference M07 About "Mandala No.7: Hope" This may not look like hope at first glance. Several people have said to me "but that's not hopeful". Bear with me on this. Hope is most valuable to us when times are dark, when the world looks grey, when there is no colour in life. At such times, even the tiniest glimmer of hope stands out because it contrasts so with the way we feel. This mandala represents a moving towards the light - a progression from darkness into light and it is the little glimmers of hope that move the eye inwards. The yellow vibrates, the greys get lighter, there is a centre of pure yellow to aspire to. This, for me, is what hope is all about. |

I draw and paint because it gives me joy. I am currently working on a series of portraits. Last year I completed a series of mandalas, exploring an old interest in symmetry. Mandalas are symbols of wholeness and change; as such I find them a particularly good vehicle to explore emotions. A lot of my earlier work was based on dreams.
