About "Mucheni Pan"
Those of us who have had the privilege of frequenting the Zambezi Valley , will have seen scenes like this . This is in fact a small pan Near Mucheni , Mana Pools probably one of the most beautiful parts of the Valley . There is a special Energy to Mana ,it has a feel to it that cannot really be described its Harsh and real which is perhaps the purity that comes through to us as we live in a hectic world full of deceptions and make believe , a virtual world of constant noise and distraction It is truly an honor to have been able to be a part of the wild a natural world that soon perhaps will disappear if we dont support the incredible work of people who are out there daily, raising funds and placing resources in the hands of the people who care the people who are on the ground , conserving , anti-poaching ,risking their lives daily .

About Astley
Africa is not a subject I discovered -- it is the landscape I grew up
listening to.
My work centres on baobabs and other enduring trees of the Zimbabwean wilderness. These forms stand at a scale beyond the human. Marked by seasons, drought, fire and the passage of
elephants, they carry visible records of time.
I am drawn to their presence -- not as symbols, but as living structures that have witnessed generations before us and will likely remain long after. In their stillness there is a sense of
continuity that shifts one's perspective.
Painting allows me to slow that encounter. It invites silence. My intention is to create work that encourages a deeper breath -- a moment in which the viewer feels both small and quietly connected to something older and enduring.
Each piece is grounded in lived experience of the Zimbabwean bush, where endurance is not metaphor but reality.
