About Tika

Tika ( E H M Nel ) is a self-taught artist who started sketching and painting at a very young age: I was always creating something since I can remember; sketching, modeling, or carving something --- and dreaming. As a child, I lived in a world of my own and that has not really changed.
She loves to convey a certain atmosphere in her paintings and wants to evoke feelings of silence, peace, tranquility, and happy memories: I do not want my paintings just to be nice pictures to go with your color scheme and furniture, but a gift of love, joy, energy, and exhilaration.
She began to paint professionally after her retirement in 1998 and enjoys every moment of it. She already held several joint exhibitions with local artists and five successful solo ones.
Tika grew up on a farm in the Great Karoo with its vast stillness and unique atmosphere which is today still part of her personality and works. She and her husband live in Upington in the Northern Cape also a great place for artists and writers.
Becoming one with one's work is exciting and pure bliss!
Or as Carto Carra puts it in his - The Quadrant of the Spirit: I feel that I do not exist in time, but time exists in me. I can also realize that it is not given to me to solve the mystery of art in an absolute fashion. Nonetheless, I am almost brought to believe that I am about to get my hands on the divine.
