About "Table Mountain South Africa"

To paint Table Mountain is to paint the seventh new wonder of nature on planet earth with unique plant species. Table Mountain is thought to be one of the oldest mountains in the world. The rocks of the mountain are approximately 600-million years old. The rocks at the base of the mountain are shale and the rocks at the western side are Cape granite.

About Dirkie

I was born and raised on a farm near Swellendam in the Western Cape, South Africa.

I am a descendant of several Dutch painters: Jacob Willemzoon de Wet (1610-1675), Jacobus (De Jonge) de Wet (1640-1697). Jacobus de Wet (1673-1710) went to Cape of Good Hope (Dutch: Kaap de Goede Hoop) to work for Simon van der Stell.

I have spent holidays with my parents at the southern coast beaches of South Africa. I never thought to be a seascape artist. I concentrate on Table Mountain scenes as seen from Bloubergstrand at the western coast of South Africa. The reason for painting Table Mountain scenes is that this phenomenon mountain is one of the seven nature wonders of the world.

I also do other South African landscape scenes.

Most of my paintings are in frames made by myself from solid wood at no exstra cost.
