About "Tea Box Arrangement 1"

I enjoy the interplay between the tea box panel showing its texture and words through the oil paint, the beauty of the accidental.

About Lyn

Lyn Hoyle

Egon Schiele & Paul Klee are my biggest influence [0x1]drawing is taking a line for a walk[0x1], To me line is the absolute. Whether it[0x1]s a charcoal sweep or mono print line. Is always the skeleton. Next is the materiality of the creative process, creating textured surfaces on which to paint. the contrivance of accidents. frottage, paint spills and free association, collaged materials

I choose my themes and direction before and during the preparation of the canvas which takes a long time- stage 1; prime and texture with gesso to create depth stage 2;apply washes and blocks of colour. Stage 3; render the line -this is very important to me and depending on the effect either I monoprint onto the canvas [0x1] a very messy affair [0x1] or use charcoals paint or inks.
With a chosen very limited palette, autumnal tones, very influenced by the sandstone cliffs of Clarens. The root of my fascination with symbolism is my convent schooling, ritual, icons, stainedglass windows, relics.
My personal motifs are the tree, owl, water, house
More inspiration for me hails from suggestions of a line of poetry, comment or observation.
Poetry [0x1] Japanese Haiku, Zen poetry, Rabindranath Tagore
African legends [0x1] Indaba my Children -Credo Mutwa, The Origin of Life and Death [0x1] edited by Ulli Beier
