About "The Urban King" This is Shaba; he was born in the time of segregation, apartheid, which meant that even though he was an intelligent young boy, he never had the opportunity to have a proper education. Apartheid was like a game of chess between black and white; there were kings and queens (the privileged) and then there were the peons (those who struggle and make sacrifices). Shaba had to start working at a young age to help support his family. Since he was a small boy he had a fascination with the game of chess, he believed that it developed his intellectual properties and that it sharpened his mind. Shaba taught his daughter how to play chess; she is a clever young girl and a quick learner. |
