About "Where Dust Meets Water!"
As the sun falls from her place in the sky, the last of her light is falling like a spotlight on these Baobabs, showing them up and revealing their majestic presence. The pinks and purple hues spray across an immense African sky as the first of this herd of Buffalo race for water hole after another blistering hot day in the Zambezi Valley.
The dust rises like smoke into the sunset and the thundering of the hooves of these Buffalo are like the drums that draw us to the present. The spoor and dung of these animals and many others like them around this water creates an ambiance that is difficult to describe, a feeling of being wild and free!
These places are beyond words, there is a deep connection within us to this wilderness, and I have found such breathtaking beauty here. It is these moments that draw us to our most powerful being, a place within us that is pure and unaffected by those around us, a place of the soul. Out here we learn the true meaning of life, even though our culture refuses to acknowledge our place in this natural world. When in the presence of such majesty we start to truly see and most importantly we become present! Walk with us in these wild places through these images, listen to you inner being and most importantly , trust in what you hear Tread Lightly on the Earth Will Maberly

About Astley
Africa is not a subject I discovered -- it is the landscape I grew up
listening to.
My work centres on baobabs and other enduring trees of the Zimbabwean wilderness. These forms stand at a scale beyond the human. Marked by seasons, drought, fire and the passage of
elephants, they carry visible records of time.
I am drawn to their presence -- not as symbols, but as living structures that have witnessed generations before us and will likely remain long after. In their stillness there is a sense of
continuity that shifts one's perspective.
Painting allows me to slow that encounter. It invites silence. My intention is to create work that encourages a deeper breath -- a moment in which the viewer feels both small and quietly connected to something older and enduring.
Each piece is grounded in lived experience of the Zimbabwean bush, where endurance is not metaphor but reality.
