About "Wilson's Wharf - Durban"

Durban Harbour is one of the largest commercial harbours in Africa, and the view of the fishing trawlers against the background of giant loading cranes provided an unusual composition.

It was quite tricky to paint all the detail in the background without detracting from the focal point in the foreground, which is the kind of challenge I enjoy.

About Pierre

I was born in Viljoensdrift in the Free State, Rep. of South Africa in 1945.

I am a self-taught artist who makes art because I love it.

My careers in the mining industry, hotelling and later in construction has taught me to pay great attention to detail and pursue excellence.

It all started with a trip to Hout Bay a couple of years ago. The sight of a fleet of fishing boats released a long-dormant seed of creativity, which has grown into an insatiable passion for painting.

This an a love of all things nautical has influenced my choice of boats and harbours as mymain source of inspiration although I have ventured into other avenues.
