About Ivy

Ivy Schmidt

Ivy Schmidt, Born 6th February 1917 - died 27th November 2008. Always an individual - swimming upstream. Ivy never painted to please anyone but herself. She saw the world in her own hues. Crazy, brilliant, fiery sunrises over the Indian ocean. Taking 'mental photographs' of all her favourite images, Ivy would retire to her studio and paint like crazy, sometimes all through the night.
Ivy was a prolific painter all her life, but never valued her art as a possession and in the last years of her life many of her favourite charities benefited by her generous donations of her art, to raise funds.

Painting and playing the piano were her passions and Ivy did both until the end. Due to her frailty in the last few years she painted miniatures on pieces of canvas. These are real gems and are truly collectors items. Each little painting is imbued with the unique passion of a true artist.
