About Ronald

Ronald Machatuta

I grew up in the townships. Acquired my pre-school in Bulawayo, tertiary school in Harare. After finishing school i worked at a pottery company named Rosbyrne Pottery for 1 year as a Decorator, worked at pottery company named Water-berry the second year.

My farther always wanted me to go to an art school, but the tuition was beyond our necessities.

While i was working in the pottery company i bumped into a woman named Helen Lieroes, a prominent artist/gallery owner.

I introduced myself to her and showed her my earliest work, I had to ask her if i could join her art lessons which became a window opportunity for me. She never gave certificates or anything of that sort but as someone who had gone from student to masters and P.H.D. in the arts and having more than forty years experience in the painting field. I was glad to be in the presence of a master. I studied under her watchful eye as my mentor. We were underprivileged and she understood my situation.

Painting at the gallery Delta had a lot of challenges above hardships, I had to push myself and bring my artistic abilities to use. The Gallery was an ocean of inspiration from old master Young contemporary artist coming up i was inspired to the full.

In 2003, the Helenics Primary School held the annual Greek Cultural week school art5 exhibition involving competitions between private and prominent schools in Harare. The National Art Gallery school of art included me in the competition. All students had to work on a Greek Mythology Theme. I happened to work on a woman being raised by two male figures, which became best drawing out of all the schools.
