About Renee

Renee Gerstner

Renee has been drawing from a very early age. Inspired by nature, her appreciation of the natural world is evident in her realistic depiction of the things she paints - water looks wet, feathers look soft, wood looks weathered. There are no wonderful stories or interpretations regarding her work, she simply paints what appeals to her emotions or senses at a particular time.
Renee studied art at school in Johannesburg, and did two years fine art through UNISA, as well as St. Lukes Art School in Onrus in the Cape. For ten years she owned a pottery shop in Hermanus, honing her skills with fine brushwork on bisque ware. Only in her late thirties did she begin painting on canvas.
