About Rieki

My name is Rieki Esterhuyse and I was born on the 5th of March 1956 in a small town in Namibia called USA kos. When I was about 3years old we moved to South Africa to a little town Naboomspruit where I grew up till I left school and got married. I never studied art or had any training in art except for those during my school years. I always loved to sketch and could sit for hours with a pencil and paper losing myself in these sketches. After a marriage of 16yrs and raised 3 beautiful children almost on my own. I got divorced and never thought of sketching again. For many years I tried to calm the passion for art with anything else, like leatherwork and jewelry making. It was about 4 years ago while I was watching my new husband Gert Esterhuyse, for six years at that time that time, while he was busy painting, that I felt this longing in my heart to do what he is doing. I started with art classes and still love every moment of it.
