About Jonathan

Jonathan Davis

I studied Graphic Design at the Johannesburg College of Art in the mid 1970's then worked in various design studios for a number of years before going freelance in 1988 as a designer, illustrator and cartoonist. I have always painted as a sideline, working mainly in acrylics and watercolour, but I am an eclectic and enjoy drawing with charcoal, modelling with clay, and working with a live model. In 2002 I became an Associate of the Watercolour Society of South Africa and have shown work in a number of group exhibitions over the years.
My landscapes are usually in the realist tradition and feature man-made elements - an old house or shop, a winding road, a battered signpost - subjects that have decayed with time and the elements, the everyday object easily overlooked by a busy world.
